The First Month...

We have been trying to get used to doing art in our classrooms rather than the art room. It's a little strange to bring lots of supplies around on a cart and hook my computer up to the SmartBoard, but I'm trying to get used to it and so are the kids :) We've been working on staying distanced, not sharing supplies, cleaning anything we used after we use it, staying organized and all the other new routines.

3rd and 5th graders currently have art twice in a six day cycle, and 4th graders currently have it once in a six day cycle. In February it will flip flop with music and 4th graders will get their chance to have art twice in a six day cycle! See a little bit below about what we've been creating the first month in each grade level.

3rd Graders

3rd graders have been learning what LP is all about! We're learning how to be an socially distanced artists while also wearing our masks and managing our materials. Students got a "sketchbook" (a binder) to keep all their project materials inside.

On our first day we did a project called "Tiny Art Show" where we created tiny art on post-its for a whole 3rd grade display, coming soon.

We spent one day outside on that beautiful second week of school doing "Interactive Chalk Drawings". Students practiced building their imagination and became part of their chalk artwork. The results are priceless!

This last week we started our "Display My Art" fundraiser project and we learned a lot! We learned how to use our new interactive app called Nearpod. On Nearpod we learned about lines, organic vs. geometric shapes, and patterns. Please ask your kiddos about all these new vocabulary words! After that, we created a drawing full of patterns. Now, we are currently working on a drawing of our "Spirit Animal" -- what we would be if we were an animal -- to put on our background of patterns. Keep an eye out for finished products soon, they are looking amazing!

4th and 5th graders

Both 4th and 5th graders have been working on similar projects the first few weeks!

First we set up our sketchbooks and designed a cover.

Then we learned how to use the new interactive app called Nearpod.

On Nearpod we did some fun get to know you activities and reviewed a lot about the Elements of Art

(line, shape, color, texture, form, space & value).

5th graders reviewed how to use our Artsonia app and practiced uploading our first photo of the year. Be sure to ask your kids about Artsonia and set up a parent account! Check the Artsonia tab above!

5th Graders and Mrs. Jones' 4th Grade class had time to start a fun sketchbook challenge: Design a license plate for Miss Ryan's art cart! Their ideas are so creative and I can't wait to see the finished projects! We are pausing on this until after our Display My Art project described below.

The past few days we've been practicing our Graffiti/Street Art Lettering! They've learned how to take a regular old letter, turn it into a bubble letter, and then add different elements such as drips, arrows, flames, etc. to make the letters in graffiti style! They are doing such an amazing job and this is always a student favorite. This will also be our Display My Art fundraiser project. Just wait for the final projects!

Virtual 3rd Graders

Virtual 3rd graders submitted a video about themselves to me so I could learn about them! :)

Then, they learned about color families, color mixing and did a scavenger hunt around their houses and created a color wheel! Students took a color quiz as well to demonstrate their learning.

Most recently, students read a live read-aloud of one of my favorite books "Not a Box", and then took a simple shape an turning it into something creative using their imagination!

Virtual 4th and 5th Graders

Virtual 4th and 5th graders have been doing the same assignments.

First they submitted a video telling me who they're doing, if they like virtual learning, what they want to learn in virtual art, and what they did over the summer. It was amazing to see their faces!

Next, I posted an assignment about our new app ProCreate. The assignment was to test out the new app, create a digital drawing, and send it to me. I didn't have too many submissions, but the ones I did looked so cool! There is always still time to submit an assignment late!

Most recently I posted a fun Bitmoji classroom with a ton of different origami videos! Students were to choose a video to watch and then create that origami paper folding!
