Happy Thanksgiving!

This week has been busy, meaning I have hardly any photos to share! Sometimes the kids are so independent and I have time to step back to catch them in action, and other times they need me each second. This was one of those weeks. 3rd and 4th graders are nearing the end of projects and 5th graders are in the thick of their new project! I hope everyone has a restful and enjoyable Thanksgiving week! I will see you in December!

3rd Grade:

Third graders have finished their gesture drawing paintings. They each chose to draw a person doing a sport/activity/hobby they love and then learned about color mixing to paint their gestures. Ask your 3rd grader about the PRIMARY COLORS. They should tell you the 3 primaries are RED YELLOW and BLUE! No photos to share, sorry! :(

4th Grade:

Fourth graders are right in the middle of their Super Hero Self Portraits! This is a longer, multi-step project but the results are SO GOOD every year so I always bring the project back. Students have finished learning how to draw people and have drawn themselves as a super hero. We talked about cartoon style drawing and they've used this style to draw their faces. This week most groups had enough time to draw their background, or where their super hero helps people. We talked about the words LANDSCAPE, CITY-SCAPE AND SEASCAPE. Then, we learned how to show SPACE in our drawing by placing things in the FOREGROUND, MIDDLE GROUND AND BACKGROUND. Ask your child what size objects should appear in the foreground, middle ground and background.

5th Grade:

5th Graders are in the thick of a new project: Shoe Design! I have NEVER seen these kids work as hard as they have for this shoe project! We talked about being designers and the things designers think about when they are coming up with new shoe ideas. We decided COLOR, PATTERN, RELEVANT, and UNIQUENESS are the top things to think about. We will be painting their final show advertisements and then the whole 5th grade will be voting on which two designs are the MOST interesting and well done. Those two students will be making their designs into REAL SHOES! The challenge is on and the competition is stiff! Stay tuned for creative designs!
