These short weeks fly by! Sometimes I can't believe how fast. 4th and 5th graders are starting to wrap up projects while 3rd graders are learning a new skill! I didn't take a ton of photos this week but check some out below.
You may have also seen a video on social media or shared by your child's classroom teacher that features LP students. We are trying to win a contest Crayola is having... they're giving away $10,000! 3rd Grade:
This week 3rd graders began learning the difficult skill of drawing with simple shapes. So often around this age students become very self-conscious about their drawing skills and often resort to trying to trace things instead of trying to draw them. I like to teach students certain skills and strategies to help them be confident in their drawing skills, however it forces them to change their perspective and way of thinking. First we took wooden shapes and made something with them, then drew what we made. THEN we learned to look at an object and try to see the simple shapes it is made of, this is a little harder. Students practiced finding the shapes in pictures that I provided for them and then drew the objects using simple shapes. We are still working on this difficult skill but I have no doubt they will feel more confident in their drawing skills after practicing this.
4th Grade:
4th Graders are finishing up their weaving projects we've been working on for 2 weeks now. They are looking amazing! I think each 4th grader officially knows how to tie two strings together and thread a needle. Mrs. Lehman's class even earned so many positive compliments they earned a "Comfy" last day of weaving and brought in some comfy things to cuddle up with while weaving.
5th Grade:
5th Graders are finally finishing up their Emoji projects! After designing them and adding different VALUES to make them look three dimensional, they glued them to a special paper which will become their Square1 Art project. I did not take any finished pictures so look for those next week.
Two 5th grade classes have been working on a different project, self portraits. I will tell a little more about this project in a week or so when they finish up, but for now you can check out Mrs. Antonelli's class and Miss Well's class mixing colors for their portraits. They are coming out SO good!
