This post covers two weeks of hard work! I am so proud of the thoughtful, detailed work I am seeing from our students. 4th and 5th grade have been taking on a new art form: weaving! They are finding this is not as easy as they thought, but are pushing through and working on their weaving stamina! Lots of thinkers around here!
3rd Grade:
Third graders are continuing their Who We Are PYP unit of study and are still working on painting their Extreme Dream Houses. Students are taking slightly longer than I planned, but it is because they are really focusing on details and having strong craftsmanship! This is a dedicated third grade group!
4th Grade:
Weaving continues in 4th grade! We have learned a lot of new weaving vocabulary. Setting up a LOOM is the hardest part. We wrap the WARP strings around the loom first, then weave in an over under pattern with the WEFT strings. Students also learned how plant and animal FIBERS such as cotton and wool become yarn on a spinning wheel, and we then use that yarn in our projects.
5th Grade:
Fifth graders continue their weaving unit this week! They are choosing either an iPad case or a small pouch with a handle. Last week students began setting up their LOOMS, the frame we weave on, by wrapping the WARP strings on first. Ask your child which way the warps strings go, up or down or left to right. This week we will start adding the WEFT strings on in an over under pattern. Students are finding weaving takes STAMINA! It is a difficult, but satisfying art form. I am proud of them for giving it a try!
