Due to two short weeks, most of our classes are still working on the same projects they were last week, but check out a few photos! Have a great weekend!
3rd Grade:
Third graders are continuing their Who We Are PYP unit of study. After brainstorming ideas for their Extreme Dream House last week, students are now drawing their houses BIG, on good paper, getting ready for painting! We learned about SPACE and how to draw objects that look very close, or very far away. Ask your students about FOREGROUND, MIDDLE GROUND AND BACKGROUND, as well as the HORIZON LINE. Students had to include at least one object in the foreground, middle ground and background of their drawings. Our third graders are very creative and have been very principled, leading them to create strong artwork! They have been so quiet while they work the quiet critters have been coming to hang out with them! Ask your child about the Quiet Critters!
4th Grade: Fourth graders continue to work on two things this week. Half of the class is designing their sketchbook covers using crayons and watercolor paints. The other half of the class worked with me on setting up their loom to start weaving. Weaving is very tricky at first, so we decided to break up into two groups. Most classes have their initial strings on their loom, so we will be adding colors of our choice soon, so stay tuned for more posts about weaving!
5th Grade:
Fifth graders had one more day to practice color mixing using just the Primary Colors! They designed sketchbook covers and painted them using at least 3 mixed colors. Students also planted succulent plants in the clay pots we painted last week. We talked about the word propagation, and how we would be taking a leaf from a mature succulent to grow a baby succulent. Students will be taking care of these plants in their classrooms for a few months until their leaves start to grow roots and a baby succulent. Students will continue to work on patience and responsibility as they water these plants each day in class.
