Short Week #1

Well, it was a short week so I don't have as much to share, but we still had some creative work being made in the art room!

3rd Grade:

Third graders are just starting their Who We Are PYP unit of study. Students learned that "Multiple cultures with their similarities and differences live together in communities". We talked about the things that make up a culture, and some of our own cultural traditions. We talked about how where we live is also part of our culture. We looked at extreme architecture from around the world and talked about what the house of our dreams would look like. Students are taking things that are part of their personal culture and designing an Extreme Dream House they would live in! Their brainstorm drawings are very creative!

4th Grade:

4th graders are working on two things this week. Half of the class started designing their sketchbook covers using crayons and watercolor paints. The other half of the class worked with me on setting up their loom to start weaving. Weaving is very tricky at first, so we decided to break up into two groups. If students did not weave this week, they will weave next week. I was only able to take photos of Mrs. Young's class, but you will notice how helpful classmates were being to each other as we learned to "warp the loom" and tie knots. Stay tuned for more posts about weaving!

5th Grade:

Fifth graders had one more day to practice color mixing using just the Primary Colors! They designed sketchbook covers and painted them using at least 3 mixed colors. Students also planted succulent plants in the clay pots we painted last week. We talked about the word propagation, and how we would be taking a leaf from a mature succulent to grow a baby succulent. Students will be taking care of these plants in their classrooms for a few months until their leaves start to grow roots and a baby succulent. Students will continue to work on patience and responsibility as they water these plants each day in class.
